Experience

a history of success

K-9 Manners of Texas provides personalized obedience and retrieval training, on-leash and off leash. With over 20 years experience, Mike Jeter has trained for local long-standing, reputable kennels and has received stellar recommendations from them, as well as from large private clientele. As an independent contractor, Mike is able to train your dog while providing boarding service at an upscale local kennel where you are assured of its loving and professional care.

companionship

a family fit

Mike keenly understands that his customers are pet lovers, not just pet owners- as a “member of the family” your dog’s good “K-9 manners” are a necessity! Your family’s enjoyment of your beloved pet, it’s quality of life, and even it’s safety are enhanced by its obedience. Give Mike a call to talk about your puppy or adult dog and what you would like to accomplish in its training. A dog trained properly makes all the difference when guiding a pet in the right direction.

mike's bio

Mike Jeter provides “personalized” obedience training–both on-leash and the more advanced off-leash.
As an avid hunter himself, Mike Jeter also specializes in retrieval training.
Early observations such as:
“Certainly one of the best trainers to come our way in a long time…"
"An abundance of all the qualities it takes to be a good trainer…"
"The patience and perseverance he demonstrates while bringing a dog around to show good behavior and obedience is outstanding…”

This feedback from kennel owners he has worked with served as confirmation to Mike that the chosen profession he was enjoying was indeed a natural fit for him and one that would be invaluable to dogs and their families.
Mike grew up in Spring, Texas, as a lover of the outdoors — hunting, fishing, frequently with a dog by his side. After graduating from Klein Oak High School, Mike went to Lone Star College and worked during school as a kennel technician and assistant trainer. It didn’t take long for Mike to realize his unique talent for working with dogs of many breeds, sizes, temperaments, and challenges–as well as what others were seeing in him too.
It was clear that he was on his way to becoming a highly regarded and recognized dog trainer.

His extensive experience of over 20 years has included training in obedience, behavior modification, hunt and field training for retrievers, and schutzhund-style training. Having successfully trained thousands of dogs locally, K-9 Manners of Texas has become a “go-to” name from veterinarians when other training attempts have failed.
At the start of Mike’s training, in addition to working as a kennel technician, he had opportunities to work as a veterinarian tech, gaining insight into discerning early clues into a dog’s physical health conditions, including how they might be affecting their training.
For over 20 years, Mike has developed trusted relationships with dogs and their families through achieving their desired training results. He has also been the exclusive trainer for three local long-standing reputable kennels, with their stellar recommendations.   Mike has always had a good relationship with his clientele, and for many is now training their subsequent generations of companion pets and hunting dogs.
Mike keenly understands that his customers are dog lovers, not just dog owners—as a “member of the family” the dog’s good “K-9 manners” are a necessity!  The family’s enjoyment of its beloved pet, its quality of life, and even its safety, are enhanced by its obedience. Mike confers with prospective dog families with a call to talk about their puppy or adult dog and what they’d like to accomplish, from the basic on-leash training, including specific problem-solving, to the more advanced off-leash training.
Mike has also enjoyed the breeding side of the dog business – having bred American Staffordshire Terriers for a few years, he now focuses on the breeding of top-notch field labs, with great household pet temperaments as well.
One more facet of Mike’s life – his two wonderful children–10 and 13 years of age, who love helping out at times, hugging, walking, relating to, or just being present as part of the “distraction” in a “real-world” training setting. Graduation time includes teaching the trainee’s whole family, including the children, in their role in the dog’s successful behavior within the family and community.
